Health and Well Being

Bucaan Community House Inc agrees with the World Health Organisation’s definition of Health:

“Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity”.
We currently run a range of programs and activities that aim to improve the health and well being of our community (see our timetable here). We focus on nutrition, access to healthy food and exercise.

Visit our resources page, where you can find more information, including tutorials, fact sheets, recipes and more.

Food Access
This is an important programme that provides access to good quality fresh fruit and vegetables. This operates on a food co-op model – you can place your order here.  Orders and payment are due by Thursday for pick-up the following Wednesday from 12:30 pm onwards. We proudly support the Waterbridge Food Co-op. You can place your Waterbridge Co-op orders with us and collect them from the House. You can check out their website here.
Veggie boxes through Waterbridge Co-op are available from $10 weekly (less often if you prefer) or you can buy a meat pack for $20 from Bucaan House. We also have free range eggs for $3.50 per dozen.

The Community Garden
The Chigwell Community Garden is located in Karambi Street. We manage the community garden with a group of dedicated volunteers. The Garden contributes to the Veggie Boxes and also assists the local community to access fresh food when they are running low. Become a member of the community garden, or donate.

Meals
Bucaan Community House has a fantastic cook and team of volunteers who are involved in providing the community with access to healthy nutritious food. We have a weekly BBQ, weekly meal, and have meals attached to activities such as the youth group.

Food Literacy
Bucaan Community House has a food literacy focus. We regularly hold tutorials on cooking and growing food.
